Pedestrian killed on Route 60 in New Kent County

A pedestrian from Henrico County died at the scene after being struck by a car during the early morning hours yesterday (Sunday) on Route 60 in New Kent County.

State police say David T. Rackley, 43, of the 400 block of Huger Drive in Sandston, was walking in the right travel lane westbound on Route 60, just east of the South Garden Road intersection, shortly before 5:30 a.m. when he was struck by a 2005 Ford Mustang driven by a 25-year-old Providence Forge man. The driver was not identified.

Rackley was pronounced dead at the scene. His body has been taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Richmond to “determine cause and manner of death.”

The Mustang driver was not injured. Route 60 westbound was closed to traffic for almost three hours while police conducted their investigation. No information was provided concerning if charges are pending in the matter.
