After five consecutive losses, New Kent’s boys’ soccer team looked to return to the win column in Monday night’s matchup against the invading Jamestown Eagles. Unfortunately, the Eagles flew into New Kent and dominated the hosts 7-0.

Jamestown maintained the advantage from the start, not allowing the Trojans to gain momentum. Eagle forward A.J. Stewart rolled past Trojan defenders Adam Caldwell and Alan Walker to convert the first goal of the 22 minutes in. New Kent’s defense stepped up, playing stellar defense for the next 16 minutes, but a questionable foul provided Jamestown’s Michael Meese a penalty kick. Meese converted the shot, giving the visitors a 2-0 halftime lead.

Exchanging sides of the field hurt the hosts, as Jamestown converted two goals within the first four minutes of the half. Three additional goals in the half by the visitors and the Trojans fell for the sixth straight game.

“I think the guys played hard tonight but that last penalty kick at the end of the first half really had the guys down,” said Trojan head coach Keith Grant. “We were really playing hard to that point.

“That was a tough situation, but we still have a long season ahead of us,” he continued. “I still have confidence that we can get things turned around.”

New Kent’s record falls to 4-6 on the year.
