New Kent entered Monday night’s contest in attempting to even their record on the season against the visiting Lafayette Lady Rams. However, the Lady Trojans found out that Lafayette’s Taylor Gubler had other plans.
Gubler scored four goals against the homestanding Lady Trojans as the visitors eased into a 7-1 victory.
Lafayette put Lady Trojan goalkeeper Caroline Jones to work early, forcing her to save five goals within the first six minutes. But the constant attacks by the guests wore the goalkeeper down, as Gubler’s placement into the upper part of the net added goal number two for Lafayette. New Kent had opportunities to score goals but couldn’t find the net. Meanwhile, Gubler took advantage by adding another point onto the Lady Rams side of the scoreboard.
New Kent’s inability to take advantage of a wide-open field failed mostly in part to rushing into offensive sets. Meanwhile, Gubler scored two more goals in the second half, accounting for her final scores and lifting Lafayette to the victory.
Lady Trojan head coach Steve Grech talked briefly about his team’s efforts.
“We had chances tonight, but the ball just didn’t go our way and that comes from not focusing on the field and not talking on the field,” he said. “We had one on one opportunities and we didn’t take advantage of them.
“We have to be better this last week of the season,” Grech concluded.
New Kent falls to 5-7 on the season.
