NKHS 4th place state finish highlights season’s success

New Kent High School’s golf team earned shot a team total of 646 to garner a fourth place finish in the Group 3A state championships at Heritage Oaks in Harrisonburg on Oct. 14-15. Travis Frazier, the team captain, led the team with rounds of 72 and 79. Teammate Cole Baldwin posted scores of 82/75 while other team members Parker Wallace and Jordan Peck posted scores of 87/84 and 86/81 respectively. Cole Hitchcock and Austin Pierce also participated at the state level, posting scores of 100/86 and 91/86.

This year’s golf team members (season average noted in parenthesis): Travis Frazier (79.27), Will Johnson (128), Austin Pierce (93.31), Cole Hitchcock (86.77), Jordan Peck (85.83), Jackson Gray (91.25), Parker Wallace (81.85), Bryce Paige (95), Cole Baldwin (82.18), and Devin Samuels, (97).

“It was a phenomenal season for us,” said head coach Charles Davis. “We performed well during ‘crunch’ time as the season progressed.

“Our motto this year was no regrets, no excuses,” continued the proud coach. “When we got to state I told them ‘why not now, why not us?’”

The Trojans finished behind Tunstall (601), William Monroe (603), and Hidden Valley (623) to garner a top four finish.

Frazier, Wallace, and Baldwin were named to the all-conference first team, while Peck was a third team selection. Frazier also received recognition for his top ten finish in district play (out of 89 competitors) and finishing in the top ten during state competition. Wallace, Hitchock, and Peck all placed within the top ten in district play.
