Fitzgerald named Arthur Ashe sports scholar

Devonte Fitzgerald, a sophomore wrestler at Central Christian College from New Kent, was named as an Arthure Ashe Jr. sports scholar.

The award, which is honored periodically to promote higher education for people of color in America, is presented to honor undergraduate students who excelled in the classroom and the athletic field. The student must accumulate a grade-point average of 3.2 or better and demonstrate a commitment to community service and leadership.

Fitzgerald is one of 10 athletes in the nation to receive this award and will graduate with an Associate Degree on May 5. He will continue at Central Christian College and is scheduled to complete a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology in 2020.
