Turner to serve as VRPS president

Kim Turner, director of New Kent County Parks and Recreation, has been elected as President of the Virginia Recreation and Park Society (VRPS) by the organization’s board of directors.

Turner fulfilled the VRPS term for Michael McCarty in 2014-15 and was subsequently voted for a three-year term. She currently serves as the organization’s vice-president and has held numerous roles within the group including being a board liaison to the Central Service Area and Legislative Committee. Other roles Turner has held include leadership roles in the Central Service Area Resource Group, being a previous chair of VRPS, and serving on VRPS Strategic Planning Team. In 2017, she received the Distinguished Service Award at a state conference for her conversations.

Turner’s term as president will begin Jan. 1, 2019 and will be sworn into office at the annual business meeting on Nov. 5 in Henrico. She is a graduate of New Kent High School and Longwood College (University).
