Joseph Edwin Maddox

Joseph Edwin Maddox, 87, of Centerville, Hickman County, Tennessee, died December 26, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton B. Maddox and Era Maddox; brothers, Harder D. and John M. Maddox; wife, Hazel Maddox; daughter, Eleanor Bowman; and son, Ray Sanders.

He is survived by his brother, Billy C. Maddox of Florence, Texas; sons Toney Sanders of Goochland, Virginia, Gary Sanders of Dadeville, Alabama, and Jody Maddox, of Toano, Virginia.

Joseph Maddox served with distinction n the U.S. Navy beginning in 1944. He was involved in World War II with service in the Pacific Theater, earning the highest decroation Bronze Star. He retired from the U.S. Navy in 1959.

He was employed by NNS&DD Co. in 1959 and retired in 1993.

His family and the world have lost a kind and loving, gentle giant who lived to create things to help others. He was a man that valued family, friends, honesty, loyalty, and responsibility.

His passion in life later focused on his surviving family, his home, and visits with friends in Lanexa.

Family and friends gathered to remember Joe at the Weymouth Funeral Home in Newport News on Saturday, January 4, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in the memory of Joe Maddox to be made to the New Kent Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
