Letter to the Editor: Says religious liberties is loss through gov’t

It really isn’t religion that is under attack in America, but Christianity and the First Amendment.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

The violation is evidenced everywhere. The Ten Commandments have been removed from our courthouses and other public places and replaced with government corruption. Prayer has been eliminated from schools and replaced with law enforcement officers. Military Christian chaplains are now required not to offend atheists and other non-believers while others of other beliefs go unrestricted in their display and speech. Christians are now labeled as hate groups, even terrorists. Christian ethical values and principles are mocked and denied.

Displaying and recognizing Christian symbols and acts are not an establishment of any religion. These anti-religious attacks are attempts to prohibit the free exercise of the Christian faith. It is abridging the freedom of speech and the right to peaceable assembly.

Read the first amendment again. Where does it speak of “separation” of church and state? It speaks of freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. This country was founded in search of freedom of religion.

The first amendment was written by our God loving founding fathers so all religions would be accepted and recognized and would not be discriminated against by one another nor regulated by the government. It was not intended to keep religion out of the public square or out of government affairs.

The courts have not only abandoned, but have willfully contradicted the original intent of the first amendment. One could and should view the courts as establishing religion of secularism. We Christians should demand that this stop and that we be able to be accepted as any and all other faiths.
