New Kent population continues to soar according to recent study

New Kent County continues to be one of the fastest growing localities in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

In a study conducted by Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia that was published on Jan. 28, New Kent is estimated to have a population of 22,462 people as of July 1, 2018. That number is 4,033 more than the number of people residing in the county in 2010. The growth is roughly an increase of 21.9 percent, making it the second fastest growling locality behind Loudoun County in Northern Virginia.

According to the study, Charles City County has seen a decrease of people since 2010. As of July 1, 2018, the study says Charles City has a population of 7,017, a decrease of 239 people (3.3 percent) since 2010.
