New Kent resident presented Carnegie Medal for rescuing elderly couple
A New Kent County man has been awarded the Carnegie Medal for saving two people’s lives.
David Connelly rescued Brian and Mary Turner on Dec. 22, 2016, after the couple’s vehicle had rolled down an embankment and began to become submerged in the Little River in southwest Virginia.
Connelly pulled on the driver’s side door and forced it over. He unlatched the seatbelt and pulled both victims to safety.
The Carnegie Medal is given throughout the United States and Canada to those who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree while saving or attempting to save the lives of others.
