New Kent JDR Court launches Hope Card program

By Community Member | April 19, 2019 3:20 pm

New Kent County’s Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court has launched a program to assist people who have been the victim of family abuse, stalking, and/or sexual assault.

In conjunction with the New Kent Victim Witness program, the Hope Card Program allows individuals to request a wallet-sized card that summarizes the protective order’s most important details. The card is available to anyone with a valid protective order that spans at least 12 months. The card is a way for law enforcement to know that a protective order is in place and provides them relevant information to assist them in their investigation.

One Hope Card may be requested per individual named on the protective order to, for example, be provided to a child’s school and after-school care program.

The Hope Card Program is funded in part under the V-Stop #18-04141VA17 by the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services to the Office of the Executive Secretary, Supreme Court of Virginia, from funds authorized by the Violence Against Women Act and awarded to Virginia by the U.S. Department of Justice.
