A Williamsburg man who had sexual interactions with a minor will spend three years in prisons after he accepted terms of a plea deal during Friday afternoon proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court.
Raheem Lucky Pittman, 21, of the 100 block of Merrimac Trail, entered an Alford Plea of Guilty to an amended charge of aggravated sexual battery of a minor (originally sexual penetration with an object). A charge of rape was dropped as part of the agreement. An Alford Plea of Guilty means that while the defendant maintains his innocence, evidence presented in the case would be enough to convict him of the crime.
In a summary of evidence provided by Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Tyler, in November 2018 Pittman interacted with minors from a nearby county via social media while he resided in Charles City at the time. On Nov. 21, 2018, Pittman invited the minors to hang out at his residence. The minors eventually ended up in the defendant’s home where the parties ended up drinking and smoking drugs.
During the night and early morning hours, one of the minors was sleeping in the fetal position on the couch when they felt something. When the victim looked up, Pittman was behind them and began to sexually penetrate the victim with his fingers as the defendant remained motionless and pretended they were sleep. Later on during the night, Pittman attempted to do the same thing with his penis before being deterred by others in the house moving around.
The following morning, the victim and the other minor stole some drugs and alcohol before making their way back to their home. A month later, the victim was speaking to a friend at school about the situation and was overheard by a school official. The victim eventually confessed to the school official about the incident and that information was passed on to the police. Those authorities contacted Charles City’s Sheriff’s Office and Pittman was arrested for his crimes.
Under the plea agreement, Pittman received a 20-year prison sentence with 17 years suspended. He must also register in the national database for sexual offenders upon his release.
