Several crashes in New Kent, Charles City; Sheriff’s Office advises to stay indoors

New Kent and Charles City saw their share of automobile accidents beginning Wednesday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Thomas Molnar of the Virginia State Police, 545 accidents have been responded to in the Richmond Division area. Of those calls, approximately 255 were reported accidents and 124 for disabled vehicles.

In New Kent, 23 crashes have been reported, with 22 of them occurring along Interstate 64. In Charles City, two crashes involving property damage have been reported.

In New Kent, Chief Deputy Joe McLaughlin reported several accidents that affected traffic:

There have been accidents on Courthouse Road near the fire station, on Route 249 near Crumps Mill Road and Kenleight Road, and in Eltham near Curtis Contracting. There was also a two-vehicle accident on Route 60 near Lanexa. There have been no injuries reported in the aforementioned accidents.

Interstate 64, however, has had several accidents in both directions. Westbound 64 saw a single car accident at mile marker 210 and a five car pile-up at mile marker 205. No injuries occurred in either of those accidents.

Eastbound Interstate 64 has seen three accidents in New Kent County. Mile marker 206 had a single car accident, with one injury reported. Shortly afterward down the road at mile marker 207, four vehicles have wrecked within a one mile span, each with no injuries. Finally, mile marker 219 had a single vehicle accident with no injuries reported.

Motorists are advised to remain at home and not travel the roads unless it’s an emergency.
