With a winless Southampton Lady Indians team in town and a final season home appearance for the New Kent Lady Trojans, the Oct. 24 Senior Night celebration concluded in a joyous occasion for the home team.

New Kent cruised to a 9-0 mercy rule win during the contest, upping the Lady Trojans record to 8-8 on the season.

Within the first 16 minutes of the game, New Kent’s Haylie Bayens proved to be too much for Southampton. Bayens accumulated three scores to give her an early hat trick. Senior Maddy Heath took advantage of her final home game, adding two more goals to propel the Lady Trojans to a 5-0 halftime advantage.

A mere 39 seconds into the second half saw the seniors get into the action for New Kent. Lindsey Moncrief punched a goal to the back of the net and followed with another one shortly thereafter. Fellow classmates Bella Focht and Abi Montecalvo also provided scores as Southampton failed to register a goal.

New Kent head coach Cristen Sickal commented about preparation for the upcoming regional tournament.

“The biggest thing with regionals is making sure we play our own game and making sure that we dominate the pace of the game,” she said. “A couple of games we lost because we didn’t control the pace of the game and let other teams set up.

“As long as we control the pace of the game, we should be fine,” Sickal concluded.
