Alcohol considered a factor in Charles City crash that killed New Kent father, son
Authorities now say that alcohol could have contributed to a single-vehicle crash in Charles City County that claimed the lives of a father and son from New Kent County. State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Molnar says alcohol “is considered a factor,” but adds the investigation into the accident is continuing.
Around 3 a.m. on March 9, a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck ran off the right side of the road as the vehicle headed west on Route 5 (John Tyler Memorial Hwy.). The driver apparently overcorrected, causing the vehicle to swerve across the road and run off the left side before striking a tree and bursting into flames. Both occupants died at the scene.
Identity of the driver, Warren M. Lewis, 38, of the 9000 block of Old Church Road, New Kent, was released last Wednesday. Molnar said earlier this week that the state medical examiner’s office has officially identified the passenger as Jayme S. Street, 19, of the 14000 block of Pocahontas Trail, Lanexa, a 2012 graduate of New Kent High School and Lewis’ son. Both victims were wearing seat belts, Molnar said.
