Felon convicted on possessing gun and ammunition illegally in Charles City
A Charles City man entered a guilty plea to possessing a firearm illegally during Tuesday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court.
Michael Lee Wallace Jr., 48, of the 11000 block of Canora Lane, entered the plea to an amended charge of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon with the last offense occurring more than ten years ago (originally possession of a firearm by a convicted felon) as part of a plea agreement. A second charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon was dropped.
In a summary of evidence provided by Charles City Commonwealth Attorney Rob Tyler, on Dec. 10, 2019 New Kent investigators came to Charles City for assistance in finding a weapon that was used to commit a murder in New Kent. After finding information on an individual who allegedly had the weapon, New Kent was able to locate the weapon after the individual indicated he gave it to Wallace. An investigator posed as individual who wanted to purchase the weapon and Wallace retrieved a revolver along with bullets for it. Wallace was arrested for illegally possessing the items as he is a convicted felon.
A presentence report is being prepared as part of the agreement, with sentencing guidelines recommending a term of seven months to one year, ten months to serve. Formal sentencing for Wallace is scheduled for May 4.
