Teenagers plead guilty to sex crimes with minor in New Kent
Two teenagers who committed consensual sex with a minor both entered guilty pleas to the crime during Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court.
Isaac Thomas Brunson, 19, of the 1100 block of Winding River Road, Providence Forge, and Cory Shane Mitchell, 19, of the 8400 block of North Henpeck Road, Quinton, admitted guilt to the crime as each pleaded guilty to an amended charge of misdemeanor consensual sex with a minor age 15 or older (originally carnal knowledge without force with a minor 13-14 years old).
In a summary of evidence, between the dates of Apr. 1 and May 29, 2020, Mitchell and Brunson had been communicating with an underage victim via a social media application. During one of the interactions, the trio agreed to meet up at Brunson’s home. The result of that interaction was that Brunson had intercourse with the underage victim, followed by Mitchell. An investigation followed and both men were arrested.
Under the plea deal, both Brunson and Mitchell received a 12-month sentence with six months suspended.
In an unrelated case, a Hampton man entered Alford Pleas of Guilt to several charges stemming from an offense that took place on July 11, 2020.
Jeremy William Webb, 30, of 5 East Lawn Drive, Hampton, entered Alford Pleas to one count of felony eluding of police and two counts of misdemeanor reckless driving as part of a plea agreement. Three counts of abduction, two counts of felony child abuse, one count of disorderly conduct, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor were dropped. An Alford Plea of Guilt means that while the defendant maintains his innocence, evidence presented in the trial would be enough to convict him of the offenses.
In a summary of evidence, Webb had gotten into an altercation with a victim and chased them on Interstate 64 in New Kent. The pursuit eventually ended up on U.S. Route 33 and as the defendant attempted to run the victim off the road, New Kent deputies were able to locate Webb and pursued him on the interstate. Officers were able to intercept his vehicle and bring it to a stop after the pursuit before being taken into custody.
Formal sentencing for Webb is scheduled for July 12.
