Editorial: A message to the local high school classes of 2021

This message is for the Class of 2021. We need to speak on the more positive things when it comes to the graduates from Charles City and New Kent.

This past year has been long for everybody and quite frankly, you deserve to be upset knowing that time was taken away from your friends along with school. The journey has been long and at times and it probably looked like you would not make the finish line.

However, your time is now to enjoy the festivities. Take everything in because you deserve this moment. You all have worked hard to accomplish what you are about to receive and that is a high school diploma. That gives you a ticket to many different avenues. Take the time over the next few days to reflect and be grateful for everything that you have seen and done so far. The journey only gets better from here.

You will not enter adulthood where life can be challenging. However, by accomplishing this important feat, you open the door for endless possibilities that you once only could dream of. This is your moment, and no one can take this away from you.

You can walk with your classmates now. Nothing can stand in your way. You got this. You can do anything you put your mind to, so what is stopping you?

Once again, congratulations to everyone and I really hope that you take this moment and realize just how awesome you are. I applaud you all. Continue to make your family and your peers proud with your excellence as you journey into the next stage of life.
