Violating protective order four times nets man quartet of felony convictions
A former Quinton man who continuously violated a court order not to contact victims has pleaded guilty to multiple felonies.
Kyle Robert Crews, 25, formerly of the 1200 block of Quaker Road, entered guilty pleas to four counts of violating a protective order (third or subsequent offense) during Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court.
In a summary of evidence provided by assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Julie Churchill, on Nov. 12, 2020, Crews contacted one of the victims through a third-party phone call. On Dec. 11, 2020, the defendant reached out to the same victim through a text message via a third-party.
The instances continued through the new year, as on Jan. 7, Crews sent a birthday card to another victim. Four days later, he sent a letter to the same victim with a picture of himself inside of it.
Churchill presented evidence that Crews had previous convictions in 2018 and 2020 for contacting the victims after multiple court orders barred him from the actions.
A presentence report is being prepared as there are no set guidelines for his sentencing range. Crews can serve up to five years on each charge (a total of 20 years) if he receives the maximum time. Formal sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 16.
