I was very impressed by what I saw at Charles City County’s July 4th celebration at Harrison Park. It reminded me of the old days when everyone would get together with family and friends, which included good food and great fun.

The county takes a lot of criticism. However, things like this are only steps to a better tomorrow. The county will grow into something special. Things take time and that starts with leaders in our office and the people who grew up in the county and live here now.

The festivities this past Sunday showed a culture of people who are proud and love their county. It showed varying talents of what Charles City has produced. When walking up and down the park, you see people with businesses that they love, and that the county truly embraces.

Charles City is full of tradition and proud people that no matter what, they want to see the betterment of the county. The seeds that are being planted will continue to bring them closer and closer together.

The other thing I saw Sunday was positivity and optimism. So many times, we have the inability to recognize the positives. I’m included in that mix as well. I agree that we must find solutions to make the county better but let us keep the positive things in mind as well. Charles City has produced great minds and people who go on to have careers as they build their lives.

As the county continue to grow, do not count out the great people of Charles City. Continue to believe in the vision of these people and the leaders that there will be a better tomorrow. Nothing in life happens overnight. Let’s continue to be patient and one day, the future of the county will be as bright as the fireworks’ display Sunday night.
