Defendants accept plea deals in NK

Several defendants accepted plea deals in New Kent Circuit Court on Oct. 22. The defendants and charges to which they pleaded guilty are:

–Christopher Ray Burney, 30, of 6030 Hunting Creek Drive, North Chesterfield, on one count of possession of heroin. Under the plea agreement, Burney received a 10-year jail sentence with all but one year suspended.
–Frances Adrienne Thames (also known as Frances Adrienne Haskin), 29, of 2965 Nairn Court, Douglasville, Ga., on an amended charge of misdemeanor distribution of marijuana. Two counts of felony child abuse were dropped. The incident occurred on May 5, 2011, when Thames was involved in a drug transaction where children were present. Thames was sentenced to 12 months in jail with all suspended.
–Justin Webster Mills, 24, of 5640 South Garden Drive, Providence Forge, on one count of possession of heroin. Mills admitted possessing the substance during a search by a New Kent officer on the premises of a Providence Forge gas station on April 4. Under the agreement, all five years of his sentence were suspended. However, Mills remains in custody on other pending charges.
–Alexander Clayton Thomas, 29, of P.O. Box 27, Upperville, on two amended charges of misdemeanor marijuana possession. Thomas confessed he sold the substance on June 13 and 22. Under the agreement, Thomas will serve an active time of one year in jail and pay $400 in restitution.
–Chelsea Renee Yates, 22, of 4503 Rocking Horse Lane, Charles City, on one count of possession of a controlled substance. Yates’ sentencing has been postponed to Nov. 5 as part of the agreement in order to see if she is accepted into a drug rehabilitation program.
