Charles City High School track reopens for public use with conditions

Charles City County’s School Board voted to reopen the high school track to the public with conditions at its meeting Tuesday night.

The track, which is used for walking purposes, had been closed to the public since April due to refurbishment. After the project was completed in late October, secondary issues such as grass-cutting and aesthetics had to be addressed.

Among conditions for the reopening of the high school track to the public include limiting the hours to when students are off campus. School board members expressed concerns with allowing the public inside the facility during school operating hours.

The track will be available for use once outside after school activities are complete. It will remain open until the start of the next school day and will also remain open during weekends. The track will be subject to closure if events are taking place at the school.

School board members are asking the public to adhere to new signage on the gates at the facility to prevent damage to the project that totaled $285,000 to renovate.
