Mathis named as new director of Heritage Public Library

Heritage Public Library’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce Kendra Mathis has been named as its new library director.

Mathis began her role on Jan. 1. Over the past 13 years, she has worked in operations, technical services, and marketing for Heritage Public Library. Mathis has over 30 years of experience in executive management and finance administration, earning a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of North Texas and a bachelor’s degree in telecommunications from Michigan State University.

“Kendra’s organizational management skillset will be an asset to the library and we are well positioned to continues serving New Kent and Charles City counties under her leadership,” said Lelia McKee, co-chair of the Heritage Public Library Board of Trustees.

“The library reaches beyond four walls and is an integral part of a successful community,” Mathis said in a press release.

Mathis credits staff members for excellent programs and wide range of services offered by the library and notes that their resilience is what kept the library running during the COVID-19 pandemic.
