New Kent boys’ finish in top ten at Group 3A indoor state track meet
New Kent’s boys’ indoor track and field team scored 19 points to finish in the top ten of the Group 3A State championships held Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
Ellis Branch leaped 42’11” in the boys’ triple jump, placing third in the event. He also dashed his way to a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter dash, running a time of 36.31. Sophomore Isaac Lamprecht ran a time of 9:52.14 in the 3200-meter run, finishing fourth in the event. Markus Sydnor cleared 11’9” in the pole vault, good enough for a fifth-place finish.
On the Lady Trojans side, New Kent compiled a total of eight points, finishing in 23rd at the meet.
Senior Julia Hathaway earned a seventh-place finish in the girls’ 300-meter dash, notching a time of 43.59, and finished eighth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.59. Amy Rudolph’s clearance of 8’6” in the pole vault placed her seventh in the event. The team of Madison Johnson, Gabrielle Butler, Lauren Vick, and Tabitha Gill combined for a time of 10:27.68 in the girls’ 4×800 meter relay, finishing in sixth place at the meet.
