New Kent Trojans second, Lady Trojans third in Conference 25 track

New Kent’s Trojan track and field team finished second while the Lady Trojans claimed third in the May 19 Conference 25 championships at New Kent.
The boys scored 90 points, trailing only Lafayette’s 139. York placed third with 70 followed by Warhill and Poquoson (67), Park View (58), Southampton (30), and Colonial Heights (5).
The girls totaled 86 points while Lafayette won with 221 and Warhill took second (95). Trailing New Kent were York (71), Poquoson (20), Park View (15), and Colonial Heights (12).
The Trojans received individual event wins from Darren Jones and Andrew Carlin. Jones cleared 13-6 in pole vault to not only win but also set a new school record. Initially, he broke the school record by clearing 13 feet. Carlin, meanwhile, easily claimed the 3200-meter run in 10:11.45.
The Lady Trojans also boasted a pair of first place finishers. Caitlin McClain won discus with a toss of 91-7 while Adrienne Goodlet held off the competition to take the 200 meters in 26.46.
