Tubman statue dedication

A statue of Harriett Tubman was dedicated during an Apr. 2 recognition ceremony at Cumberland Estate in New Kent County. The sculpture recognizes the American abolitionist and her activities to network to free slaves from the south as the ‘conductor’ of the Underground Railroad. The Cumberland Estate was commissioned in Summer 2020 as one of many sites to commemorate her heroism as part of understanding the struggle of social issues dealt with over many centuries.Robb Johnson photo
