Letter to the Editor: The gun control issue needs to be addressed promptly

We hear daily of humans killing other humans. We didn’t ask to be born, but once we’re here, we discover opportunities to make life worth living. To cut off a person’s chance to avail themselves of what life has to offer strikes me as grossly heinous. To be insensitive to this and wipe out another person’s life, even unintentionally, is what I never want to do.

Guns don’t need to be sold, dispensed, or brandished indiscriminately. They are potential end-of-life determinants. Their trigger response is quick as a wink. Having a gun is an inherent lethal risk, but how can you determine who should not have guns? Once you decide this, how can it be enforced? Other non-totalitarian countries have done it with some instances of notable success.

Does the gun control issue merit well-considered and common sense action, or is the status quo good enough? The latter will prevail due to human tendency for inertia and gun devotees’ hostile stance unless enough of us speak up and force change. My voice by itself won’t budget the ultra-conservative establishment.

To the young people who want to make the world better, where are you? If more of you would be effective crusaders for good, the gun malfeasance problem could be brought down from its present, out-of-control level.

Let us be a light where there is darkness.
