Editorial: Young people need to prepare for a changing world today

My message to the young people returning to school is this; the world is changing.

My advice to you is that the world is becoming more complicated by the day. You must understand that the world is different than the generations before you. Technology is constantly evolving, making it more difficult to live everyday with just one job. The cost of living continues to go up, along with the stress of life.

To the young people, do not worry about the latest fashion or trends. You need to focus on furthering yourself in whatever you are trying to do. This may seem like the old man in me telling you to lock in and stay focused and not worry about other things. That is not the case. I am saying that you need to start focusing on your future today so that you do not have to work so hard tomorrow.

Think about what life will look like in the next five to ten years. I understand we all want to have fun, but I can tell you from firsthand experience that the ones who are focused on their future and put their work in front of leisure will be the ones on top. They will be the ones getting into colleges with top tier scholarships.

Life will come and pass you by fast. As your school year approaches, you have to be in control of your future. Hold yourself accountable in this new world we are in. It’s very important that education becomes your central focus. Use that education to make sure that your future is filled with unlimited opportunities.
