Editorial: Let’s learn to be better in life with our choices and actions
I find myself upset when I see trends or activities done by other people doing things that shouldn’t be done.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where we do not learn from the past. The result may lead to a tragic future for some people. I speak on this because I recently covered several court cases involving crimes where individuals were driving under the influence whether it’s drugs or alcohol. And as I sit in on these court cases and listen to these things, I wonder if people really take heed of actions from others in the past.
From driving under the influence to racing on highways, people take risks when they’re behind the wheel of a vehicle. And unfortunately, it’s not the people driving the vehicle who suffers the most damage. It is the people who are who are hit or the people who are passengers that suffer the unfortunate setbacks. For my job, I have to cover the stories, but there are people who do not learn from these mistakes until something tragic happens.
People suffer who aren’t involved, such as families, teachers, and friends, ate the ones who have to deal with the most heartbreak. And while the person that made the mistake or error may regret it, the issue could have been avoided in the first place. As people, we need to take responsibility for our actions and make the proper choices. That includes the surrounding groups or people that one may be affiliated with.
The best way to do it these days is to put yourself in a situation where you don’t have to make that type of decision at all. Instead put yourself on a map when it comes to road of life and make good decisions. Not everything will be perfect, but if you put yourself in that place of another person, we could avoid tragedies that make all people suffer. While some people don’t believe that the person who perpetrated the crime should be responsible or suffer, mentally they are scarred for the rest of their lives. They will have to live with this burden, but that burden doesn’t replace life.
While I am hopeful with this as well, I wanted to share words of wisdom and encourage others by simply saying that we need to be better as a society and learn from these lessons. Whether it’s driving under influence, smoking, or whatever the negative setback is, we must learn to be better. We must learn to stick together. If not, we are just suffering and setting ourselves to suffer more consequences in the future.
Let’s inherit responsibility and remember that no matter what we do, big or small, positive or negative, it will impact someone. I’m hopeful we tend to lean towards the more positive as it is the best for all.
