Editorial: Facing tasks that are often deemed impossible

By Andre Jones | August 31, 2022 10:06 am

Have you ever been in a position where you’ve been given a task to complete, but yet you know it’s nearly impossible to do so? Well, that’s how I felt this week.

In today’s society, there are things that people expect us to be able to do even when we don’t have the resources. There are comparisons you can make in a variety of fields where this may apply. From education to government to recreational activities, positions of leadership are expected to complete assignments in the most efficient way.

But what happens when you know that assignment is something that no matter how much you try to explain the difficulty, it’s brushed off? Despite your knowledge of situations, it’s looked over because it has to get done. You can relate this to several items. You want to construct a building but can’t because the material isn’t on site. You want to hire a person to a certain position, but you don’t have adequate funding. You want to raise funds for an organization but nobody’s willing to donate because they are facing their own financial struggles. What do you do in these types of situations? How do you address them?

My words are simple: Keep the faith. If we aren’t challenged in what we face today, we will never reach our maximum potential. And if you want the greatest reality check, we will never reach our maximum potential. We can always do more and give more. We can always push to be better people. We will face adversity and won’t understand why. But the old adage is true; no matter how old we become we will always learn something new every day. It may be miniscule in some areas while it maybe be impactful in others.

When facing that new task, if it’s too much at the time, step away from it and evaluate it at a later time at a different angle. If it’s in a time crunch, it’s okay to ask for help. In the end, don’t pressure yourself to the point where you do something inefficiently where it causes more harm than good.

Stay bound by your morals and remember your worth. Pushing forward to become someone greater will only make you a better person.
