New Kent’s Lady Trojans and Gloucester’s Lady Dukes went 73 minutes with no team gaining an advantage over the other. But for the hosts, overwhelming the visiting Lady Dukes with a plethora shots saw one finally find the back of the net that eventually would be the game-winning score.

Kaitlyn Drake’s shot to the back of the net with 7:27 remaining in the contest was the difference maker as New Kent triumphed 1-0 over Gloucester in Monday night’s contest.

Moving deep into the second half, both teams’ defenses continued to standout in the non-district affair. With 10 minutes remaining in the second half, New Kent continued to increase the number of shots against the Gloucester goalkeeper. It wasn’t until Morgan Schalasny’s pass to Drake that created an opening for the hosts that led to the score and 1-0 lead.

The visitors attempted to counter, sending more players on the attack as regulation time ticked off the clock. In stoppage top, a Gloucester attempt on goal was denied by Lady Trojan goalkeeper Emily Ward. From there, time expired off the clock and New Kent emerged victorious.

After the game, New Kent Lady Trojan Head Coach Steve Grech commented about the tenacity of his squad.

“These girls played super good today,” he commented. “It was some of the best games from these girls I have ever seen.

“Our defense played great, and that last save by Emily [Ward] saved this game,” Grech continued. “With this being our home opener, this helped us, and I appreciate this team for the performance they put on today.”

New Kent improves to 2-1.
