Struggles continue for Charles City High School’s baseball team. This time, it was at the bats of the visiting Middlesex Chargers.

Seven first inning runs provided more than enough space as the Chargers downed Charles City 17-1 in the Tidewater district contest.

Already down 3-0, Middlesex’s Trey Fitchett brought home the next score. After Charles City’s Carson Menefee walked the next pair of batters, Kaden Hunley’s RBI double drove home the next two runs for the guests. A Panther error allowed Patrick Larson to cross home plate for run number seven before the hosts could exit the field following the top of the first.

Middlesex dominated defensively as well, keeping Charles City in check until the bottom of the fifth. Charles City’s Justin Post-Parada beat a throw to first base before stealing second and third base. Teammate Mitchell Whitehead’s sacrifice drove home Post-Parada, what would account for the Panthers lone score of the game.

After the contest, Charles City Panthers Head Coach Michael Logan continued to preach his disdain for his team’s effort.

“We had a lack of effort, and we have to change this culture,” he said. “It’s not going to happen overnight, so it’s one of those things that need to get started.”

Charles City’s record falls to 2-11.
