“The Bay Rivers is no joke. It’s a powerhouse and right now, we just don’t match up.”

Those were the words spoken by New Kent boys’ Head Coach Derek Yates after his team fell to Jamestown 9-0 in the May 3 contest.

The tone and outcome of the game was essentially decided in the first two minutes. New Kent found themselves down 5-0 almost immediately, with Jamestown’s Camden Anderson-Tayman and Peyton Smith scoring two goals, along with Sam Forrester’s one.

And even when the reserves came into the game for the visitors, New Kent had no answer. Jamestown forward Max Cooper achieved a hat trick in the first half, elevating the visitors to an 8-0 advantage by the halftime intermission. One additional goal in the second half by the Eagles triggered the mercy rule in the game.

In addition, Yates commented about the season to date.

“We have worked for two days in order to be competitive against Jamestown,” the frustrated coach commented. “We did it for about four-and-a-half minutes and then we fell apart. That has been our season.”

New Kent’s record falls to 3-8-2.
