Several contested races, including spots on New Kent boards, highlight fields for November election
New Kent County’s November general election will be the most highly contested races in years.
Four spots on New Kent’s Board of Supervisors, four spots on New Kent’s School Board, and a battle for the New Kent County Circuit Court Clerk will headline the November general election in the fastest growing locality in the state of Virginia.
County leadership will have at least one new supervisor as current District 2 representative C. Tommy Tiller is foregoing re-election to the position. Battling for his position will be John Moyer and Donald Westbrock.
Three current supervisors will be challenged by newcomers for their slots in November. In District 1, incumbent Thomas Evelyn will square off against Mark Daniel. In District 3, Patricia Paige will look to retain her seat against Bruce Howard. In District 5, incumbent John Lockwood will face off against challenger Jordan Stewart.
Only position on New Kent County’s Board of Supervisors will go unopposed as District 4 Ron Stiers is the only candidate to file for that position.
New Kent County’s School Board will see three individuals vie for the District 2 seat that is being vacated by current member Kristin Swynford.
Helena Cunha, Elizabeth Remorenko, and Kelly Martin have all declared their candidacy for the position.
In addition to the District 2 seat, District 1 will also have a new representative on the school board as Wayne Meade has selected not to seek another term. In his place, Keith Pagano is currently listed as the only other candidate to fill the void.
Seats in District 3, District 4, and District 5 to New Kent’s School Board will see incumbents face off against challengers. In District 3, incumbent Andrea Staskiel is being challenged by Heather Donbrosky. In District 4, Sarah Grier-Barber is looking to serve another term as she takes on Ronnie Vaught. In District 5, two other candidates are challenging incumbent Margaret McBeath for the seat, as Gregory Reimer and Mia Pollard battle to get onto the school board.
In the only other current balloted race, New Kent County’s Clerk of Circuit Court will have incumbent Amy Crump and newcomer Rachel Mills square off for the position.
Races that are currently running unopposed in New Kent are for sheriff (Lee Bailey), Commonwealth’s Attorney (T. Scott Renick-incumbent), treasurer (Charles Evelyn- incumbent), Commissioner of Revenue (Laura Ecimovic), and Soil and Water Conservation Directors (two positions- E. Wayne Davis and Philip Thomson).
General elections will take place on Nov. 7.
