Man indicted on attempted murder as part of armed robbery of Dollar General in Charles City

A man who allegedly committed an armed robbery of a Dollar General Store in Charles City County has been indicted on multiple charges, including attempted murder.

Yahsim Tremaine Williams, 23, currently of Newport News City Jail, was indicted on six counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony (second offense), three counts of abduction, and one count each of use of a firearm in commission of a felony (first offense), attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, robbery that resulted in bodily harm, shooting inside an occupied building, and malicious assault during July 6 proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court.

On Aug. 1, 2022, law enforcement officers swarmed outside the Dollar General Store at the 10000 block of Courthouse Road shortly before 7 p.m. According to information, a suspect exchanged gunfire with a sheriff’s deputy, striking them in the back. The deputy survived as they were wearing a ballistic vest.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, being described as a 6’1” male with a thin build. Authorities canvassed the area for clues, working with the Virginia State Police and other localities searching for the suspect. Eventually, Williams emerged as a person of interest in the case and possible suspect.

Williams is being held without bond on the charges. No court date has been set as of this time.

In other indictments certified by the grand jury:

–Christopher D. Frazier Jr., 35, of the 1200 block of Doty Chapel Road, Afton, Tennessee, on two counts of grand theft auto. Frazier allegedly stole a boat belonging to Justin Hurst and a vehicle belonging to Tomahund Marine on Oct. 8, 2020.

–Kenneth Marvin Wallace, 65, of the 17000 block of The Glebe Lane, Charles City, on a single count of malicious wounding. The defendant allegedly attacked Larry Wallace on May 27, resulting in serious bodily harm.
