Former Charles City supervisor Timothy Cotman Sr. succumbs

Former Charles City County Board of Supervisor member Timothy Cotman Sr. has died.
Cotman passed away on Aug. 1, 2023, at the age of 80.
Cotman served on Charles City’s Board of Supervisors from 2002-2011. He was instrumental in several projects that began the early movements and transformation the county in the years of the new millennium.
“In the heart of Charles City, we mourn the loss of a true community champion, Mr. Timothy Cotman,” said Charles City County Administrator Michelle Johnson in a press release. “As a former Charles City Board of Supervisors member, he dedicated his life to fostering progress and prosperity within our cherished community.
“Mr. Cotman’s legacy shall forever resonate through the accomplishments he achieved during his tenue,” Johnson continued. “From spearheading vital infrastructure projects to advocating for educational advancements that empowered our youth. Though he may have left the earthly realm, his spirit of service and compassion lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
“May we draw inspiration from his selfless dedication and continue building upon the foundation of unity and progress he laid before us. Farewell, dear friend, your impact endures,” the release concluded.
Cotman also served as a chemistry teacher at Charles City High School, serving stints in both the 1970s and returning in the 2010s.
A funeral service is planned for Saturday, Aug. 12, at 1 p.m. at Gilfield Baptist Church in Charles City.
