An aspect that has plagued Charles City’s Lady Panthers’ volleyball team for most of the Fall 2023 season has been communication. Unfortunately for the hosts, that was the case in Monday’s matchup against the visiting Appomattox Regional Governor School’s Lady Dragons.
Charles City fell 11-25, 7-25, 15-25 in straight sets to the visitors, dropping their third straight contest since their first win on Sept. 14.
After the Lady Dragons dominated the first two sets, Charles City began clicking in the third frame. Charles City jumped out to a 4-2 lead before a back-and-forth exchange on the scoreboard ensued. Lady Dragon Niala Myrick converted an ace to bestow an 8-7 lead to the visitors. After Charles City knotted the score up eight, ARGS went on a 4-1 run powered by kills from Alexis Washington and Serenity Flowers.
Charles City bounced back, with Lady Panther Kaylee Stewart keeping the ball in play and cutting the guests’ advantage to two (13-11). But from that point, the Lady Dragons took firm control of the contest, going on a 12-4 run that ended with back-to-back kills from Flowers and Milo Deaner to close the match.
After the contest, Charles City Lady Panthers’ head coach admired her team’s tough play but commented that lessons taught early in the season must carry through for the rest of the campaign.
“Communication is key for us,” the head coach commented. “We have to move our feet and communicate better on the court.
“If we can do that, then we can see some improvement,” Adkins concluded.
Charles City’s record falls to 1-10.
