Meet the Candidate for Virginia House of Delegates, 71st District (Serves New Kent): Amanda Batten

Experience: Currently serves as representative in the 96th District, worked as a legislative aide for the General Assembly, on house committees of education, public safety, and commerce of energy, serves as Majority Caucus Chair.

Why are you running for the position: “I take seriously the privilege of participating in our representative democracy. Over the course of the past 15 years, my political and civic volunteerism evolved into a vocation, thereby affording me the privilege of working with local residents and stakeholders to identify policies that will ensure the region remains vibrant, both culturally and economically.”

Why should people vote for you: “Some individuals run for the General Assembly because they have a specific policy they would like to pursue. I bring a different perspective. I meet with constituents and community stakeholders to discuss issues affecting individuals as well as our region. The high cost of living is constantly mentioned. I will continue to work to carefully assess the costs, both hidden and overt, of each policy to ensure the price is not simply passed along to consumers.”
