A Yorktown man will spend a month in jail for hiding a gun out of the sight of an officer during a traffic stop in New Kent.

Bryce Michael Satterfield, 21, of the 500 block of Maple Road, entered a guilty plea to one count each of possession of a Schedule I/II drug and an amended charge of misdemeanor concealing a firearm (originally possession of a gun while in possession of a Schedule I/II drug) as part of an agreement reached Monday morning in New Kent Circuit Court.

In a summary of evidence by New Kent Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott Renick, on Nov. 30, 2022, a Virginia State Trooper executed a traffic stop for a vehicle that was speeding. The officer approached the driver, identified as Satterfield, and asked if he had any weapons in the vehicle. The defendant admitted that he did, telling the officer he had a gun and handed it to the officer. A search of the vehicle by the trooper resulted in the discovery of Adderal, which is illegal to have without a valid prescription.

Under the plea agreement, Satterfield received a 12-month sentence with all but one month suspended on the misdemeanor conviction. He will enter into the First Offender program on the possession of a Schedule I/II drug. If he successfully completes that program, the charge will be dismissed.

In an unrelated case, Joshua Lee Carter, 35, of the 2800 block of General Boulevard, Richmond, had one charge of possession of Schedule I/II drug (methamphetamine) dismissed after successfully completing the First Offender Program.
