School zone speed cameras beginning warning period on Dec. 1

New Kent County Sheriff’s Office will begin photo traffic enforcement in school zone areas starting with a warning trial beginning in December.

Beginning Dec. 1, a warning period from speed cameras in the county school zones will begin. Speed cameras will be activated as part of a 30-day warning period to encourage motorists to slow down. The cameras will identify vehicles traveling over the speed limit and a warning notice will be mailed.

Photo enforcement will begin on Jan. 16, 2024. Photo cameras will only be active and enforced on school days as designated by the school district. Warning signs and flashing lights will indicate when the cameras are operational.
