Charles City Fire Station #2 grand opening

Above, Charles City County Fire Chief Jimmy Johnson (left) and Charles City County District 1 Supervisor Gilbert Smith takes apart the hose as part of the uncoupling ceremony that signifies the ribbon cutting and grand opening of Charles City Fire Station #2 on Roxbury Road during a Nov. 2 celebration. The $5 million station received backing from county leaders in Nov. 2021 after an agreement for financing was reached, resulting in groundbreaking of the facility in February of this year. The station is also being named after Smith, who served on the county's board of supervisors for more than 30 years and will be retiring in December. Below, a picture of the outside of the three-bay station provides a state-of-the-art look and functionality of the facility, providing extra support for the western part of the county.
