Charles City man receives four months in jail for discharging firearm illegally
A Charles City man will spend four months in jail for discharging a firearm at multiple relatives following a Nov. 9 sentencing in Charles City Circuit Court.
Gary Lee Wade, 55, of the 12900 block of Wilcox Neck Road, received a 12-month sentence with 10 months suspended (two months to serve) on two counts each of misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm. Five years on each of two charges of attempted unlawful wounding were suspended.
During an Aug. 25 trial, Wade entered no contest pleas to the aforementioned charges. During that trial, evidence presented revealed that the defendant got into an argument with a family member about having insurance on a vehicle. The argument escalated, with Wade entering his home, retrieving a shotgun, and firing it at a tree line behind the victims.
