Benjamin Harrison Bridge undergoing five months of maintenance starting Apr. 22
The Benjamin Harrison Bridge that connects Charles City and Prince George County will be undergoing maintenance for the next five months.
Starting Monday, Apr. 22, Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be working to replace span locks on the bridge. Work will be completed on intermittent days.
Maintenance will take place Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. During this time, flaggers will direct traffic to alternating lifts. During some times, delays will also take place for periodic bridge lifts that will last no longer than 20 minutes.
Motorists are advised to pay attention to changes in traffic patterns. Motorists may also use the following alternative routes:
–Traveling Northbound from Prince George: Take Route 10 West to Interstate 295 North. Take Exit 22A to Route 5 East to return to Route 106/156.
–Traveling Southbound from Charles City: Take Route 5 West to Interstate 295 South. Take Exit 15A to Route 10 East to return to Route 106/156.
Motorists traveling in the Hampton Roads area may use the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry as an alternate route.
Repairs to the bridge are expected to be completed by September.
