Charles City girls’ relay place fifth at state championship meet
Charles City’s Lady Panthers 4×100 relay team placed fifth at the Group 1A State Track & Field Championships held at James Madison University on May 31-June 1.
The quartet of Jaida Braxton, Taniyah Williams, Jaela Smith, and Derequa Johnson ran a time of 52.72 in the event, leading to the best finish for Charles City at the competition. Johnson also placed eighth in the girls’ pole vault with a clearance of 7’0”.
Charles City’s Lady Panthers scored five points at the meet, finishing in 29th place. Brunswick’s girls and Lancaster’s boys captured state championships at the 1A level.
