Panthers, Trojans put up respectable performances at Charles City Track and Field Invitational

With 24 teams in attendance and more than 750 athletes on site, the Charles City Invitational Track and Field meet provided a showcase of the host school’s talents, as well as neighboring New Kent County. Both programs did not disappoint.
New Kent’s boys’ teams scored 49 points en route to a seventh-place finish as Saturday’s competition. Charles City’s boys’ team did not yield any points.
New Kent’s Liam Holloway captured gold in the pole vault competition, clearing a height of 11’9”. Teammate Landon Evans earned bronze in the event with 10’6”. New Kent also earned medals in the discus as Tristen Jenkins’ toss of 140’3” garnered silver, and the 4×800 meter relay team of Davis Chandler, Tobey Davis, Jarred Hathaway, and Carner Henning ran a time of 9:17.75 to earn bronze.
L.C. Bird’s boys’ won the competition with 102 points. Mecklenberg County finished as runners-up with 79, while Middlesex placed third with 58.
On the girls’ side, New Kent amassed 36 points to earn an eighth-place finish as the meet. Charles City’s Lady Panthers scored 19 points, good enough to finish in 11th place.
Madison Johnson captured the gold for the Lady Trojans in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:29.43. For Charles City, Derequa Johnson took home silver in the girls’ 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.22.
L.C. Bird’s girls’ team also won the meet, scoring 115.5 points. Mecklenberg County also finished as runners-up on the girls side with 64 points, while York earned third with 61 points.
