Johnson wins three events as Lady Panthers place third at home meet

Returning after a few weeks off, Charles City’s Lady Panthers outdoor track and field team performed at a high level after placing third out of 11 teams during the Apr. 17 record meet.
The Lady Panthers were led by an elite display from Derequa Johnson who finished first in the 200-meter dash (27.41), 100-meter hurdles (15.89), and long jump (16’9½”). The team excelled in triple jump as they racked up 16 points with Johnson grabbing silver (35’1”), and teammates Madison Bradby (28’9”) and Ke’Asia Meekins (28’1”) finishing fifth and sixth, respectively. Bradby and Meekins also tied in first in the girls’ high jump with a clearance of 4’2”.
Charles City’s other top performer was Jaida Braxton, who earned silver in the girls’ 200-meter dash with a time of 13.35. She also placed fifth in the girls’ 200-meter dash with a time of 28.41.
Charles City’s Lady Panthers scored 75 points at the meet to earn the bronze. Tidewater District rival King William won the meet with 103.5, with Hampton Roads Academy placing second at 81.5.
Charles City’s boys’ team did not score at the competition. Middlesex claimed the boys’ division with 157.5 points.
