Charles City High School shifting to A/B block schedule beginning in FY2025-26
Charles City High School students will see a new bell schedule when they return to schools next August.
School board members voted to approve the switch from seven periods to eight blocks during Tuesday night’s regular meeting.
Currently, high school students attend seven classes a day at 50 minutes per period. There is one period entitled “Pride Time”, which serves as a remediation period for 40 minutes each day.
Starting in 2025-26, students will have four blocks per day, which they will attend every other day. Blocks 1-4 would be on “A” days, while blocks 5-8 would take place on “B” days.
The first class of each day (Block 1/5) would run from 7:15-8:50 a.m. The second class (Block 2/6) would run from 9:04-10:34. The third class (Block 3/7) would run from 10:38 a.m.-1:06 p.m., with first lunch taking place from 10:38-11:03 a.m. and second lunch taking place from 11:07 a.m.-1:06 p.m. Finally, the last class (Block 4/8) would run from 1:10-2:40 p.m.
In other notable school board actions:
–Announced summer school would run from June 9-July 10.
–Approved a retention bonus for returning employees. Full-time employees would receive $600 and part-time employees would receive $282. The bonus will be based on contracts signed for FY2025-26.
