New Kent’s Lady Trojans rolled into the Region 3A playoffs and rolled out with an easy win.
New Kent demolished the visiting Hopewell Blue Devils 25-1 in the Region 3A quarterfinals on May 30, extending their win streak to 12 games.
The hosts pushed the pedal to the floor immediately in the bottom of the first. New Kent tacked on eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. Meanwhile, Hopewell couldn’t solve the pitching enigma known as Abbie Kegley. Along with the Lady Trojans defense, New Kent built their lead up to 12-0 by the end of the second.
Mariah Leonard’s bases loaded single drove in a run in the bottom of the third. Lady Trojan Hannah Tober stepped up to the plate, connecting with the ball and hitting a grand slam, extending the hosts lead to 17-0. And while Hopewell mustered a run in the top of the fourth, New Kent cruised with eight more runs to close out the contest and advance to the regional semifinals.
