If there is a program that is humble and confident at the same time, it’s New Kent High School’s Lady Trojans’ softball team.
The Lady Trojans cruised to an 11-1 victory over visiting Bay Rivers District foe York, once again claiming the Region 3A Championship for the fifth consecutive year.
New Kent cashed in early on the heels with a triple from Hannah Tober, driving in the first run. A double by Abbie Kegley was followed by a live drive from Liberty Britt, adding three more runs to the Lady Trojans for a 4-0 lead by the time the end of the first was completed.
The scoring wasn’t done yet for the home team, with three more runs added in the next frame to jump out to a 7-0 lead. Kendall White’s double followed by Britt’s double added two more scores, placing the visiting Lady Falcons in a 9-0 hole.
York tacked on a run in the top of the fifth to cut the lead, but two more runs including the final one courtesy of White’s single, would enact the mercy rule and give the hosts an 11-1 victory.
