John J. Wooten

John J. “Stack” Wooten, 78, of Lanexa, Virginia, passed away on Aug. 15, 2025.

Stack enjoyed playing cards, joking with family and friends, loved everyone, and always had a good time. He loved old vehicles and riding on back roads. He never met a stranger and loved talking to people.

Stack was preceded in death by his parents, Mathew James and Minnie Hazel Wooten; brothers, James Adam Wooten, Mathew “Cotton” Wooten Jr., and Ricky Kenneth Wooten; sisters, Bernie Mae Blue, Jewel Whitehurst, Juanita Galloway, Vickie Galloway, Janet “Cuddy” Allen, and Charlotte Ann Carneal; and two great-grandsons, Jacob Austin Wooten and Michael Mark Mayes III.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris Wooten; daughter, Belinda Wooten Ciejek; son, John Richard Wooten; beloved daughter-in-law, Heather Wooten; sister-in-law, Ann Wooten; four grandchildren, Amanda Mayes, Kayla Hawkins (Cody), John Wooten (Whitney) and Savanna Wooten (Casey); six great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Deskins, Linda Dickens (Albert), and Ruby Newbill (Monty); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2025, 2 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Virginia, 23140. The family received friends from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. before the funeral at the funeral home. Interment followed at Tabernacle Christian Community Church Cemetery, 20051 Tabernacle Road, Barhamsville, Virginia 23011.
